Teaching is an important part of my life.

My aim in teaching is two fold. First, I aim to de-mystify the world of art without detracting from its complexity. The history of art is a wonderful part of life, however, it often appears impenetrable. I aim to make art accessible and interesting, if not exciting. Whether it is the politics, the history, the science, the biography, the philosophical aspect or the straightforward visual pleasure of the thing, I truly believe art offers something for everyone.

Second, teaching art history is a constant source of wonder to me, as I see new things and make new connections. My conversation with the history of art and art making is an ongoing one. The insights I gain from students' questions and observations keep both my mind and my eyes fresh.

Since 2000 I have been teaching art history at Langara College in the continuing studies department. I am however, interested in education at every level. I have given lectures and presentations in schools (Elementary to University), public galleries and even in people's homes.

Here is some unedited written feedback from students and clients:

The instructor showed great enthusiasm and passion in this course. He is also considerate of what the students want. It has been a great experience attending this class. Thank you!

Instructor was a great wealth of information, who obviously loves teaching what he knows. Enthusiasm rubs off on his class and makes it a pleasure to attend. I would have gladly paid a higher fee for a much longer class.

Encyclopedic knowledge.
